Faculty of Arts and Sciences

The faculty was established in 2003 under the name of Gazi University Corum Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The Department of Biology and the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, affiliated to Gazi University, were opened in 2003-2004 academic year and begun to admit students. In 2006, Hitit University was established and our Faculty has continued to admit students under Hitit University Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Later on, other departments such as Chemistry, History, Mathematics etc. were established.

Today, about 1100 students are registered to various departments in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences among many cities of Turkey and different countries of the World. The students have many advantages and opportunities like laboratories, libraries, sports hall, as well as programs such as double majors and minors besides student exchanges. Our faculty has also built-in cafeterias and a canteen for students.

The Department of Anthropology
Department established in 2012 within the scope of Hitit University Faculty of Science and Letters; It continues academic studies in the fields of Paleoanthropology, Physical Anthropology and Social Anthropology.

Our students continue their education in all 4 classes in our department. We have a laboratory within the Faculty of Science and Letters at Hitit University. In this laboratory, skeleton and fossil materials found from excavation studies are analyzed. Our academics in the Department of Paleoanthropology attend excavation and survey projects (Paşalar, Çorakyerler, Kyzikos, Parion, Balatlar, Hadrianopolis).


The Department of History
The History department was established in 2006, it accepted its first students in 2009-2010 academic years. Main fields of the department are the Ottoman History, the History of Medieval and Modern Europe, the History of Ancient Times, Medieval and Modern Middle-East and Ancient History.

Teaching the modern historiography approaches in the world, improving the student’s using the skill of historical sources and provide comprehensive approaches about historical, geographical and periodic matters are the basic aims of the Department of History.

The Department of Biology
The  Biology department; within the scope of theoretical and applied courses in basic life sciences, following scientific and technological developments at international level, it will direct studies and projects in this field; It was established to raise individuals and researchers with qualified, scientific, technological knowledge and skills. In the 2003 - 2004 Academic Year, the education was started with the educational activities by taking 30 students with additional placement.

Education and other research studies are carried out according to following research areas; general biology, botanic and zoology. There are one of professor, two of associate professors, one of assistant professor and three of research assistants in the academic stuff. Education activities continue with 59 undergraduate students in Biology Department. Studies of postgraduate students continue under the umbrella Institute of Science of Hitit University.

The Department of Physics
Physics department has been founded in 2007. Undergraduate program was firstly taken up in 2008-2009 education years. In 2014, the department started acceptance of graduate students who are willing to improve themselves in one of the specific field of physics science.

The theoretical courses in the undergraduate program are supported by various application laboratories which are General Physics I-II, Modern Physics, Electronic and Quantum Laboratories established for students to practice their knowledge.


The Department of Chemistry
Chemistry department was established in 2007 and started to drive the chemistry bachelor program in the 2007-08 academic year. Chemistry undergraduate program aims to follow the latest developments in the field of chemistry and to encourage the students who are interested in research and development.

Hitit University Chemistry Department is very ambitious in education and research due to our extensive resources, modern facilities and outstanding faculty. The Department has six research laboratories such as Analytical Chemistry Lab., Inorganic Chemistry Lab., Organic Chemistry Labs. and Nanotechnology Lab.


The Department of Turkish Language and Literature
The Department of Turkish Language and Literature started its undergraduate education in 2003. There were 40 students in the first year of our department and the number of students increased over time. In the 2008-2009 academic year, the students started to take evening education program.

In our department, a four-year undergraduate program and a curriculum suitable for the requirements of this program are applied. At the same time, in coordination with the Social Sciences Institute of Hitit University, Turkish Language and Literature graduate program is given with the contributions of our faculty members. Our department has been continuing its studies in five branches: Modern Turkish Literature, Classical Turkish Literature, Turkish Folk Literature, Modern Turkish Language and Old Turkish Language.
